Puttenham Common 'Mushroom Ride'

Tony, Peter, Matt and myself met up at Puttenham common for a loop round the West Surrey Hills. (30miles acc. to matt's computer)
Some fantastic trails were ridden with.

We traversed Crooksbury Common, Hankley Common, the apocalyptic Thursley common (mega fires there in the summer) Witley Common. The Main Climb of the route involved an up and over of Hydons Ball were at the top a stone bench in Memory of Octavia Hill (founder of national trust) was used for a bit of respite from the sandy trails and a chance to fuel up. The views to Hindhead were shrouded in mist so we cracked on through Godalming and shackleford to the motors.

Now the mushrooms/fungi we saw were spectacular, we got chatting to some women out harvesting some tasty looking treats. It was not possible to provide adequate guidance to the identification of edible and poisonous species of fungi so we looked and smelt and listened some of the Parasol mushrooms we saw would have filled up the largest of frying pans. Others seen where, Fly agaric, Bay Bolete, Cep or Penny Bun, Larch Bolete, Death Cap and loads of others.

Voted a top route in a never ridden area made challenging by the sand traps and drop offs

thanks to Ashleywright for the route
