The weather was cold but not freezing nor wet as some
forecasts had predicted, the route was through some
lovely country, the company and social chat en-route
was pleasant and the tea stop was welcome. Lastly but
definitely not least the leader was hugely skilled and
solicitious to his group ! Yes, last Sunday's Club Run
was another pleasant and healthful outing.
About eight riders met at the Angel and set off to the
south with the target of the Wiston Post Office and
tea rooms (Wiston is just under the South Downs near
to Washington/Ashington and the A24 to Worthing) .
With all being similarly fit and experienced, the pace
was brisk without being too fast though was obviously
not enough for one of our number who couldn't but help
himself from occasionally breaking away from the bunch
(excuse : "It's just in me !"). The tea stop was warm
and welcoming though, as ever, it was a struggle to
get going again afterwards particlarly as we were now
heading back into a steady Northerly wind.
The excellent route card supplied by our Chair took us
through some lovely quiet, traffic-free roads (about 8
mins on one road without having to share it with a
car!) until we rejoined civilisation (traffic !) near
Christ's Hospital and our route to the north and east
for home. By this time, at least one in our group was
flagging slightly but, in accordance with Club
practice, others rallied round and encouraged, pushed,
cajoled and sheltered said rider for the remainder of
the journey. Nice to see that our practice of not
dropping riders fron Club Runs ensures that everyone
makes it to the end - safely !
A particular welcome to David, refugee from Kingston
Wheelers (through having moved to Reigate just days
previously). Though with much obviously to do at home,
still found the time to put all that behind him and
get out on his bike. Just our sort of guy ! Nice guy,
nice bike, hope that you enjoyed riding with us and
that we see you again soon David !
