ongratulations to all ten Redhill Cycling Clubs riders who contested the opening time trial of the season and came away with 5 awards in an event that attracted some top riders.
The event was a 14.6 mile time trial on Saturday 12 February organised by Crawley CC and was held over an awkward 14.6 mile course that started in Faygate, climbed up to the village of Rusper and then via Newdigate and Parkgate, back to Faygate. Of the ten Redhill CC entrants, Dan Bartley took third place in the 4th Category, James Hopkins took first place in the 3rd Category and also won the prize for taking second place overall in the under-18 age group. His performance included beating several Category 2 and Category 1 riders and through a time reduction of 1 and a half minutes since the same event last year in spite of the difficult, gusty conditions on wet roads showed the increasing strength and experience that he has gained. Allan Hopkins took third place in the 3rd category whilst Steve Hopkins (not related) took an impressive 3rd place in the 2nd Category group.
Redhill CC President John Eglington watched the impressive performances by the Club riders and commented afterward; “Having 10 riders take 5 awards is a great outcome for a Club in any event let alone the season’s opening time trial and reflects the increasing number of competitive riders within Redhill CC. It’s particularly nice to have this excellent result at the beginning of the season in this our 60th Anniversary year of the Club”.
