Each year, the club awards one of its most prestigious and impressive trophies - the three-handled tankard sometimes known as a 'Wassail Mug' or a 'Loving Cup' - to the person who embodies the Good Fellowship of Redhill Cycling Club. It does not hinge on athletic prowess, speed or endurance. However, in this case the winner is someone who comes with all of these in spades. It hinges on the spirit that a member brings to the club, to the rides they attend and impart to riders around them. If it's a wet, cold morning a smile will return to the faces of riders when such a person turns up... or when it's a final hill and resolve is dwindling, they will lift those around them.
You get the idea!
This year, a huge number of nominations were made: 23 in total and many popular names were in the running: Chris H, Sharon H, Maria B, Martin B, Frank, Mike O, Rupert and Adrian to name a few. The winner however was Mat Swan, our MTB Secretary and one of the most popular riders in the club. Mat's sheer love of riding his bike is infectious (in a good way!) and that came through in the voting, making him the first off roader for a few years to walk away with the stunning cup that carries names back to 1948.
Congratulations, Mat - a popular and worthy winner!
